Posted: Jul 19, 2013 10:51 PM EDT KNOXVILLE (WATE) - Officials are investigating after a 1-year-old child died after being transported to the hospital Friday night.
Officers with the Knoxville Police Department, as well as Rural/Metro and the Knoxville Fire Department responded to a medical call at Big Oaks Apartments on the 3800 block of Middlebrook Pike around 5:45 p.m.
The child was transported to UT Medical Center.
Officials say the child was pronounced dead a short time later.
The Violent Crimes and Juvenile Crimes unit of KPD are investigating the case.
Officials say the Department of Children's Services has also been notified.
KPD officials say that the investigations are standard procedure in the case of a child death.
The cause of death is set to be determined by the Medical Examiners Office.
